Jaiminīya (Talavakāra) Brāhmaṇa 2-3.141

2-3.141

vasubhya eva prātassavanaṃ prāyacchadrudrebhyo mādhyaṃdinaṃ
savanamādityebhyastṛtīyasavanam
vasubhya evemaṃ lokaṃ prāyacchadrudrebhyo'ntarikṣamādityebhyo'mum
athendramasṛjata
sa idameṣāṃ sarvamvibhaktamapaśyat
so'bravīdyadidameṣāṃ sarvaṃ vibhaktamatha kasmai māmasṛṣṭhā iti
eteṣāṃ tvā ityabravīcchraiṣṭhyāyādhipatyāyāsṛkṣīti
so'haṃ kathameṣāṃ śreṣṭho'dhipati syāmiti
parehyenānbrūhītyabravīdyuṣmākaṃ mā prajāpati śraiṣṭhyāyādhipatyāyāsṛṣṭeti
sa etyābravīdyuṣmākaṃ mā prajāpati śraiṣṭhyāyādhipatyāyāsṛṣṭeti
te'bruvanvayaṃ vāva śreṣṭhā smo vayamadhipatayo ye jyeṣṭhā sma iti nājānan
sa punaretyābravīnna vā amī tajjānanti yattvamāttheti
sa etaṃ yajñamapaśyat
tamāharat
tenainamayājayat
sa heṣṭvaiva sarvā mṛdho vyahata
yadvyahata tadvighanasya vighanatvam
vi ha vai dviṣantaṃ bhrātṛvyaṃ hate ya evaṃ veda

To the Vasus he gave the morning pressing, to the Rudras the midday pressing, to the Ādityas the third pressing.
To the Vasus he gave this world, to the Rudras the atmosphere, to the Ādityas that [world].
Then he created Indra.
He saw all this of theirs already divided.
He said: 'Since all this has been divided among them, for what then did you create me?'
'I created you for their preeminence, for [their] overlordship,' he said.
'How can I be their chief and overlord?' [Indra asked].
'Go to them and say,' he said: '"Prajāpati has created me for your preeminence and overlordship."'
He went and said: 'Prajāpati has created me for your preeminence and overlordship.'
They said: 'We indeed are the foremost, we are the overlords who are the eldest!'—and they did not recognize [him].
He came back and said: 'Those ones indeed do not recognize what you said.'
He (Prajāpati) saw this sacrifice.
He brought it.
With it he sacrificed for him.
Having sacrificed, he struck down all adversaries.
Because he struck [them] down (vyahata), that is the nature of the Vighana.
He strikes down his spiteful rival who knows thus.
