They say: 'Only the Vāmadevya [should be used].' For the Vāmadevya is [effective]; and that Rājana sāman is manifestly the Vāmadevya. With breath he chants its prelude; with a verse he chants the prelude of the Vāmadevya. With breath he chants the hiṃ sound for this, that breath may be 'hiṃ, hiṃ, hiṃ.' Just as a bird has a resting place, so the Rājana is [the resting place] of the Vāmadevya. Prajāpati is the father, Āditya the son; Prajāpati is the Vāmadevya, Āditya the Rājana. Therefore he shines more brightly than these two [together], for this brilliance has burst forth from him. It is equipped with eighties; on each stotriyā verse two eighties are accomplished; they amount to fifty eighties. Two eighties are day and night; with these two they feed him; they indeed feed him with these two. Its nidhanas are the pṛṣṭhas themselves.
