Concerning this they say: 'Following which deity do they sit down when taking consecration, and following which do they rise?' He should say: 'Following Agni among the deities they sit down when taking consecration, and following Āditya they rise.' Therefore they say of consecrated ones, 'They are sitting,' even though they might lie down and then stand up; for Agni is the best among the sitting gods, and they belong to the deity Agni at that time. Therefore they say of those who have risen [from the rite], 'They have arisen,' even though they might sit or lie down; for Āditya is the best among the arisen gods, and they belong to the deity Āditya at that time. Concerning this they say: 'Having become what do they rise?' He should say: 'Having become men they take consecration, and having become gods they rise.' They go about depositing this semen of the ṛc, the semen of the yajus, in the womb of the brahman; they go about making oblations over it with offerings right into the fire. Therefore during the consecration and the upasads they feel, as it were, languid; for the semen is then, as it were, tender. Therefore a pregnant woman feels, as it were, languid; for the semen is then, as it were, tender. They go about making them grow threefold with praises and recitations, chanting over them. Therefore embryos develop without eating.
