Whether he sits at a sacrificial session or does not, his sacrificial session has nevertheless indeed been sat. And when one who knows thus undergoes the toil, these two deities as his portions sit at the sacrificial session; uninjured he reaches the end of the year. That year is indeed that which burns up yonder. That which shines in it is 'saṃvat'; that which is the black disk in the middle is 'sara'—thus regarding the divine. Now regarding the self: That year is indeed this person in the eye. That which is the white of it is 'saṃvat'; that which is the black disk in the middle is 'sara'. Concerning this there is this verse: / 'From me the sun rises, and into me he sets; / upon me all the gods are dependent; none transcends me.' / Thus. 'From me the sun rises'—for one who knows thus indeed does the sun rise. 'And into me he sets'—for one who knows thus indeed does he set. 'Upon me all the gods are dependent'—upon one who knows thus indeed all the gods are dependent. 'None transcends me'—indeed nothing transcends one who knows thus.
