On this point some make the svaras themselves the pṛṣṭhas of the Svarasāman days. By the pṛṣṭha indeed the day is named; these are named 'Svarasāmans'; therefore the svaras themselves should be made the pṛṣṭhas of the Svarasāman days. If they should make the svaras the pṛṣṭhas, whatever are six-fold they should make on single Bṛhatīs. Regarding this Śāṭyāyani said: 'We visibly make the svaras the pṛṣṭhas who make the Bṛhat and Rathantara [the pṛṣṭhas]. This [earth] indeed is Rathantara; that [sky] is Bṛhat. By these two worlds all this is encompassed. Therefore the Bṛhat and Rathantara alone should be made the two pṛṣṭhas.' Moreover, those who undertake three [sāmans] undertake interrupted Svarasāmans. All of them must be performed. Thus the day is extended by two and two. Thus the Svarasāmans become held together, uninterrupted, and also for the separation of the worse from the better. On this point some make the Bṛhat the pṛṣṭha on Bṛhatīs for the Viṣuvat:—
