this midspace is the Bṛhatī; in it this wind purifies within. That is the pṛṣṭha; and in that its quarter consists of twelve syllables, it is thereby performed on Jagatīs; thus the third pressing is made not unexhausted.' Regarding this Śāṭyāyani said: 'The Viṣuvat belongs to the Jagatī; this sāman belongs to the Jagatī; that Āditya belongs to the Jagatī. For when he rises, the moving world goes forth following along with his procession. Therefore the Divākīrtya should be made the pṛṣṭha on Jagatīs alone. In that case, what are three Jagatīs are four Bṛhatīs; thereby it is performed on Bṛhatīs; praised together, they amount to twenty-eight Bṛhatīs; thereby indeed the Bṛhatī is not omitted. Moreover, this Divākīrtya is fashioned as the seed of breath itself. The Jagatī is procreation. He is that Āditya. When they make the Divākīrtya the pṛṣṭha on Jagatīs, they cause him to prosper with his own proper abode. By him prospered, there is prosperity for them among their own people.'

Regarding this they ask: 'What is done on the Divākīrtya day by which he generates offspring and by which he sustains offspring?' He should say: 'The Divākīrtya is the semen fashioned from the breath itself. The Jagatī is procreation. By it he generates offspring. And in that he, having become breath, sustains the subsequent and preceding days, by that indeed he sustains offspring. The Divākīrtya is breath itself. The Bhrāja and Abhrāja [sāmans] are the two eyes. The Vikarṇa is the ear. The Daśastobha is speech. These breaths are placed in the middle.' Now, on this matter, some draw the Ājya cups only after sunrise; they undertake the morning recitation after sunrise, saying: 'This day is named Divākīrtya (
