The eye is, as it were, moist; moist, as it were, is the rainy season.
The ear is autumn.
The mind is winter.
The waters here in man, that is the cool season.
Now the divine seasons:
Wind was spring.
Fire was summer.
Parjanya was the rainy season.
Āditya was autumn.
The moon was winter.
Those heavenly waters yonder, that was the cool season.
That breath which was spring, that wind which was spring, that is this spring now.
Then the speech which was summer, the fire which was summer, that is this summer now.
Then the eye which was the rainy season, the Parjanya which was the rainy season, that is this rainy season now.
Then the ear which was autumn, the Āditya which was autumn, that is this autumn now.
Then the mind which was winter, the moon which was winter, that is this winter now.
Then those waters in man which were the cool season, those heavenly waters yonder which were the cool season, that is this cool season now.

These seasons are paired with the directions: with spring, this eastern direction is paired; with summer, this [southern direction];
2-3.51.p3
varṣābhiriyaṃ śaradeyaṃ hemantenāsau śiśireṇeyam
with the rainy season, this [western direction]; with autumn, this [northern direction]; with winter, that [upper direction]; with the cool season, this [lower direction].
2-3.51.p4
tadyathā patiṃ jāyā animeṣamīkṣerannevamevainā evaṃvidaṃ dīkṣamāṇamīkṣante
Just as wives look upon their husband without blinking, so indeed do they look upon the one who knows thus as he undergoes consecration.
2-3.51.p5
tadyaddigbhirīkṣitastasmāddīkṣitaḥ
Because he is looked upon (īkṣita) by the directions (digbhiḥ), therefore he is the consecrated one (dīkṣita).
2-3.51.p6
sa dīkṣiṣyamāṇa ādityamupatiṣṭheta tvaṃ devatā dīkṣitāsi
As he is about to be consecrated, he should attend upon Āditya: 'You are the deity who is consecrated.
2-3.51.p7
sā dīkṣamāṇasya teja indriyaṃ vīryaṃ yaśa ādatse
As such, you take away the splendor, faculty, vital power, and fame of the one undergoing consecration.
2-3.51.p8
mā me teja indriyaṃ vīryaṃ yaśa ādithāḥ
Do not take away my splendor, faculty, vital power, and fame.
2-3.51.p9
tava dīkṣāmanu dīkṣa iti
Following your consecration, I undergo consecration,' so [he says].
2-3.51.p10
athartūnanvārohati
Then he mounts the seasons:

ya ṛtava ṛtubhyo'dhyāsan
'The seasons who were above the seasons,
