When he had proclaimed this arrangement to him, he added the supplementary chanting, assigned the preludes and responses, and then instructed him.
"This indeed is the year," he said.
"This is its path that leads to the gods, these are the two tracks, this is the course."
He who knows this thus goes to the conclusion of the year without suffering.
Prajāpati is the Person.
Prajāpati is the year.
That Person who is—this space which is in the intermediate space, that indeed is that Person.
Now, in that it does not delight visibly in the intermediate space, it does not delight because of fullness.
And in that it gazes within (antarīkṣate) all this, therefore it is the intermediate space (antarikṣa).
And in that it unites (yute) all this, therefore it is the wind (vāyu).
And in that it blows (vāti) through all this, therefore it is the wind (vāta).
The self of this space is gathered up in what that sun is.
That is this Person in the sun.
Then, the space that is beyond it, of it this self is gathered up in what the moon is.
That is this Person in the moon.
"He should not be considered different," Śāṭyāyani used to say;
"this Person who is in the eye is the very one in the sun, this very one in the moon."
One reaches him by this very human form.
