The ninefold is deficient; from the deficient it drains out. Just as one might tear open a leather bag from both ends and rinse it out, so did he rinse out all his evil by means of these two ninefold pressings. He struck away the evil both upward from here and downward from here. He who knows thus strikes away the evil both upward from here and downward from here. He, excessively emptied here, was not able to rise. He reflected: 'How now may I reconstitute this one?' With this very [sacrifice] he made him sacrifice again. Thereby he reconstituted him again. That is its nature as Punastoma. Its midday pressing is twelvefold. The year has twelve months. With the year itself, he reconstituted his emptied self from the middle. He was as one who had never taken anything [harmful]. Just as there would be gain for a child with two teeth, so indeed was there gain for him. He who considers himself to have swallowed poison, having accepted from one from whom one should not accept, or having eaten the food of one whose food should not be eaten, should sacrifice with this. By these two ninefold pressings, he dispels the poison scattered upward from here, downward from here, and all around.
