At it, he gives gold weighing a hundred measures—yellow gold—[for the sun in the forenoon;] to the moon in the afternoon
he gives gold weighing a hundred measures—silver.
He thus sacrifices these two, forenoon and afternoon, during this latter fortnight.
His consecration is on the new moon, with the pressing after it.
This indeed is the course of the Sun and the Moon.
The Sun and the Moon desired: 'May we attain equal prosperity through an equal sacrifice;
may one of us conquer the day, the other the night!'
They saw this sacrifice.
They grasped it.
They sacrificed with it.
Thereupon, through an equal sacrifice, they attained equal prosperity.
One of them conquered the day, the other the night.
This indeed is their equal prosperity, that one sacrifices during the forenoon and afternoon in the same place.
The forenoon is the day, the afternoon is the night, for the conquest of day and night.
He sacrifices the first fortnight and the latter fortnight.
The first fortnight is the day, the latter fortnight is the night, for the conquest of day and night.
There are [pieces of gold] weighing a hundred measures.
Man has a life of a hundred [years], a hundred faculties, a hundred vital powers; [it is] for the securing of that very faculty and vital power.
