atho haitadbrahmaṇe caiva kṣatrāya ca viśamanuyuvaṃ karoti
Now this is the Gāyatra [rite].
Its morning pressing is threefold (trivṛt), the Acchāvāka's ājya [stotra] is fifteenfold (pañcadaśa), the midday pressing is seventeenfold (saptadaśa), the third pressing is twenty-one-fold (ekaviṃśa).
The sacrifice is an Ukthya with both sāmans.
One who desires the office of royal chaplain (purodhā) should sacrifice with this.
As to why the Acchāvāka's ājya [stotra] is fifteenfold in the threefold morning pressing: the threefold is the spiritual power (brahman), the fifteenfold is the nobility (kṣatra); he thus places the spiritual power in front of the nobility.
Therefore a Brahmin is the chaplain (purohita) of a kṣatriya.
And in this way he makes the nobility subordinate to the spiritual power.
The midday pressing is seventeenfold.
The seventeenfold is the people (viś).
The chaplain is indeed a second king.
He who attains prosperity attains lordship and mastery over the people.
'May I attain lordship and mastery over the people'—therefore the midday pressing is seventeenfold.
And thus he unites the people with both the spiritual power and the nobility.
