and grandfathers, the doers of good deeds, have gone to the heavenly world?'
The two of them performed austerities.
They saw this two-day sacrificial rite.
They brought it forward.
They sacrificed with it.
Then indeed, the two followed to where their Āṅgiras seers, fathers, and grandfathers, the doers of good deeds, had gone to the heavenly world.
He who desires, 'Where my fathers and grandfathers, the doers of good deeds, have gone to the heavenly world, thither may I follow,' should sacrifice with this.
Right to where his fathers and grandfathers, the doers of good deeds, have gone to the heavenly world, he follows.
Moreover, they say: 'He against whom there is a superior rival should sacrifice with this.'
He who is superior is, as it were, like one who has died before.
As if [reaching] those who died before, so the two reached them by this.
Having reached the superior, one becomes better off in himself.
Moreover, they say: 'One desiring offspring should sacrifice with this.'
The self is the first day; offspring is the latter.
He refines the self by the first day, and offspring by the latter.
