Regarding this they say: 'In that world there is no room for a thousand, either for oneself or not even for oneself.' Regarding this they say: 'How far is the heavenly world from here?' One should say: 'As far as a thousand cattle standing in a cattle-pen; furthermore, as far as a thousand breaths breathe together; furthermore, as far as a thousand horse-journeys; furthermore, as far as a thousand yojanas; furthermore, as far as a thousand days' journeys.' That he obtains indeed by cow with cow. That speckled two-year-old heifer, becoming a wish-milking cow, stands by him in that world who knows thus. Having thrown down a tarpya garment, he leads the dakṣiṇā to the south, for the safe origin of the thousand. When he created the thousand, the tarpya garment was indeed its source. In that he leads it to the south having thrown down a tarpya garment, he thereby provides that thousand with its source. A thousand, together with its source, attends him who has given a thousand, who knows thus. As for the cow that is the thousandth, he should whisper into her ear: 'O Iḍā, O Rantā, O Great One, O Renowned One, O Bright One, O Shining One, O Offering-cow, O Desirable One, O Aditi, O Sarasvatī, these are your names, O Unslayable One; declare us well-doing among the gods.' Truly she declares him well-doing among the gods. He makes her smell the soma vat: 'Smell the soma vat; let the drops enter you with greatness; do you milk a thousand for us, wide-streaming, rich in milk.' Truly a thousand attends him who has given a thousand, who knows thus.
