prajāpatireva candramāścaturtho brahmā dakṣiṇata āsta
Of them, breath called for recitation, and downward breath responded. Mind was the Hotṛ. Prajāpati himself, as the fourth, sat as the Brahman on the south. They offered it as a complete oblation into the fire in Prajāpati's own heart. From that being offered, the deity Agni was born: that is the knowledge of the verses. Next, the deity Vāyu was born: that is the knowledge of the sacrificial formulas. Next, the deity Āditya was born: that is the knowledge of the chants. Next, these three best of the gods were born, and these three sciences. Surely just so much was created by Prajāpati. Then, through these very deities, all this other [universe was created]. They said: "With the sacrifice with which our father Prajāpati succeeded after sacrificing, with that let us sacrifice!" They brought it. Of them, Vāyu called for recitation, and Āditya responded. Agni was the Hotṛ. Prajāpati himself, the Moon, as the fourth, sat as the Brahman on the south.
