Mauṇḍibha Udanyu, king of the Udanyus, sacrificed with this very rite. At it, Yavakrī Saumastambi sat down facing the place of praise. For him they made these introductory verses: 'This Pūṣan, Wealth, Bhaga.' He said: 'O Mauṇḍibha, you have mounted a broken reed; you have been deprived of your vital breaths!' Such indeed was the curse at that time. Now, Mauṇḍibha Udanyu was a treasury of the threefold knowledge. He said: 'Tear down my sadas hall and havirdhāna shed! Daubing my soma cups with clay, set them aside! When this cursing Brahmin dies, then I will sacrifice.' They set aside his soma cups, having daubed them with clay. Now, Yavakrī Saumastambi was fiery and full of spiritual luster. Whomever [among women] he spoke to—she who desired him died, and she who did not desire him also died. He spoke to the wife of Yajñavacas Rājastambāyana. She reflected: 'Whether I desire him or do not desire him, he [my husband] will surely die. Come, let me desire him! Having done what is pleasing to a Brahmin, may he die!' She said to him: 'Wait over there; then I will come to you.'
