Having learned this, Mauṇḍibha said: 'Erect my sadas hall and havirdhāna shed; sacrifice for me, Brahmins! The Brahmin whose curse is spoken will become immortal.' They did so for him. Having learned this, Saumastambi arrived. He sat down facing the praise-ground in the same way. For him they made these very introductory verses: 'This Pūṣan, wealth, Bhaga...' He said: 'Truly this base nobleman did not know this sacrificial rite; truly he did not kill my son by what he uttered; so long indeed was that son's lifespan!' He cursed him then: 'This base nobleman shall die right today; these Mauṇḍibhas shall be ousted.' Those Gautamas wander about defeated. For this [rite] there are 'tara'-verses as introductory verses: 'Crossing over, he runs rejoicing.' Therefore the horse is the best crosser of distance. There are running-verses: therefore the horse, running, encompasses the distance. There is one foot with 'samayi': therefore the horse stands raising one foot.
