Now these ten days are Agniṣṭomas. Prajāpati gave the draught of soma to these sāmans. These sāmans are indeed endowed with the soma-draught, their evil destroyed. Having destroyed evil, he becomes better who knows thus. And these sāmans are filled with desires: just as a leather bag might be well-poured with curd or ghee or honey, so are these sāmans filled with desires. About this, Kuṃstha indeed used to sing with the Kālāśi verses: / ‘Like sprinkling the bay horses from the goal, / Like jars full of liquor at the seat of Janamejaya.’ / Whatever desire one desires through these sāmans, that very one he secures. Now these are the ten days of the twelve-day rite. These days that belong to the twelve-day rite are full of vital power. So that with those days that are full of vital power it should not be unchanted, different stomas carry them. This is indeed the flourishing of the days, that different stomas carry them. Whatever is the flourishing of the days, that very [flourishing] is performed.
