Now, these [stomas] contain the twelve-day rite, so that: 'Whatever praise belongs to those containing the twelve-day rite, that shall be obtained by us.' But here something like this is placed nearby: either they should undertake them beforehand, or they [should undertake] them afterward. If they should undertake them beforehand, [it is] for the non-interruption of the day of the introductory rite. Here, however, they blame this: that, having brought speech into union with the tenth day, they attain the end of that stretched-out, unestablished speech. Whatever they might consider as having the form of the introductory rite there, that alone they should perform there, saying: 'May we attain the end of speech that contains "pratna", contains "pra", is fulfilled, is unstretched, and is a firm foundation.' Now this Viśvajit is an Atirātra having all pṛṣṭhas; it is a day belonging to Prajāpati. Day and night are the complete Prajāpati: 'May we prosper in the complete Prajāpati, may the complete Prajāpati be obtained by us.' Regarding this, they say: 'Those who undertake this Viśvajit Atirātra ascend to what is superior, for they approach Prajāpati manifestly.' Then, that there is a five-day period coming backward beyond it is just for conciliation, for freedom from affliction, for auspiciousness, for peace. The concluding Atirātra is connected with Vaiśvānara; for ahīna soma sacrifices have Vaiśvānara as their conclusion.
