For that is prosperity, that is the path. The Śyaita and Naudhasa are the two sāmans for the Brahman priest, so that [the competitor] might cry out 'Śū' after a clearly won race. Then there are these six Atirātras. Six indeed are the evils in man, the six midpoints: sleep, sluggishness, anger, hunger, love of gaming, and love of women. These they ward off by means of these [rites]; these they cross beyond. Then there are these three three-day periods, nine days. Nine indeed are the breaths in man. This is the measure of the breaths, the prosperity of the breaths. Then this tenth day has the Vairāja as its pṛṣṭha. That is the navel. Indeed, being motionless, it is fastened to these days. Because, being motionless, it is fastened to these days, therefore the navel, being motionless, is fastened to the breaths. For when one breathes out, it breathes after him; when one breathes in, it breathes after him. That is the tenth of these days. The Virāj has ten syllables. The Virāj is food—[it is] for the attainment of food, which is the Virāj.

tadukthyaṃ bhavati paśavo vā ukthānyannaṃ paśavo'bhipūrvasyaivānnādyasyāvaruddhyai
It is an Ukthya; the ukthas are indeed cattle, cattle are food—for the progressive attainment of food.
2-8.363.p3
tatṣoḍaśimadbhavati vajro vai ṣoḍaśyannaṃ virāḍvajreṇaivānnādyaṃ parigṛhṇanti
It possesses the Ṣoḍaśin; the Ṣoḍaśin is a thunderbolt, the Virāj is food—with the thunderbolt they seize food.
