On this they say: "The Tavaśśāvya should be made the pṛṣṭha of this day." / When the gods in the beginning gathered together the vrata, it became the Tavaśśāvya. / In that the Tavaśśāvya becomes the pṛṣṭha of this day, they directly undertake the vrata itself. / But on this they also say: "Difficult to discern are the stobhas of the Tavaśśāvya, the padavṛttis, the prastāvas, the pratihāras, the deities, the nidhanas. / The Vāmadevya alone should be made the pṛṣṭha of this day." / The Vāmadevya is the self of the vrata. / Just as one, having arrived, might not find home, such it would be if they were to make anything other than the Vāmadevya the pṛṣṭha of this day. / But on this they say: "A svāra is not suitable for pṛṣṭha-hood. / In its place the Rājana should be made the pṛṣṭha of this day." / By means of the Rājana, Prajāpati attained kingship, sovereignty, and supreme lordship over creatures. / "By that by which Prajāpati attained kingship, sovereignty, and supreme lordship over creatures, by that let us attain kingship, sovereignty, and supreme lordship over creatures." / Indirect, as it were, indeed is this Vāmadevya which is the Rājana. / The Rājana becomes the pṛṣṭha. / The Vāmadevya is the Maitrāvaruṇa-sāman. / The five-nidhana Vāmadevya is the Brahma-sāman. / Thus, along with the sāmans in regular order, putting together their self in the middle with the Vāmadevya, they proceed.
