"And when I told you, 'Mount the four-wheeled [chariot] that brings one across,' I told you only of these four Bṛhatī verses: 'Forward, Soma, to the banquet of the gods...' (pra soma devavītaye), 'Pour around the pressed [juice]...' (parīto ṣiñcatā sutam), 'Towards the somas, O active ones...' (abhi somāsa āyavaḥ), 'Being purified, O Soma, in a stream...' (punānaḥ soma dhārayā). This indeed is the four-wheeled [chariot] that brings one across, namely these Bṛhatī verses. Just as with a four-wheeled [chariot] that brings one across one would go wherever one wishes to go, even so by means of these Bṛhatī verses they go to the heavenly world. And further, this indeed is the chariot of the gods. Just as with a well-yoked divine chariot one would go wherever one wishes to go, even so by means of these Bṛhatī verses they go to the heavenly world. Therefore these very Bṛhatī verses are to be used. And when I told you, 'Do not go away from the straight path leading to the heavenly world,' I spoke to you only of the Auśana and the Kāva [sāmans]. For this indeed is the straight path leading to the heavenly world, namely the Auśana and the Kāva. The Auśana is in front, the Kāva is behind. These two are indeed father and son driving a boat. Just as a father and son driving a boat would convey it across safely without harm, even so by means of the Auśana and the Kāva they reach the conclusion safely without harm. Therefore the Auśana and the Kāva are not to be omitted.
