"A cow sinks down; an elephant sinks down; a man sinks down; a boat (plava) does not sink down. Therefore, with this boat that does not sink down, we float across this fullness of the year." Regarding this they say: 'There is a censure: they condemn [it, saying], "Those who have floated have drifted away!" Indeed, whoever is defeated, whoever falls behind, of him they say, "He drifted away!"' The Abhīvarta alone is to be performed. Its finale consists of a single syllable. Speech indeed consists of a single syllable, and speech is the entire brahman. Therefore, by means of this entire brahman, just as one would pass over kudī thorns having covered oneself with a hide, even so having covered themselves do they pass over this fullness of the year. And it is like this: just as one would cross over heated sands having put on sandals. Therefore the Abhīvarta alone is to be performed. And when I told you, 'Approach the divine pair,' I told you only of these two Gāyatrī verses: 'High [above the sky] your [birth] is born from the juice...' (uccā te jātam andhasā) and 'With the sweetest, most intoxicating...' (svādiṣṭhayā madiṣṭhayā). For this is the divine pair, namely these two Gāyatrī verses: 'High your...' is the form of the male, 'With the sweetest...' is of the female. Thus this pair is made productive for procreation. He procreates through a pair, who knows thus. Therefore these two Gāyatrī verses alone are to be used.
