the Kurus.
The morning pressing belongs to the Gāyatrī; the midday pressing belongs to the Triṣṭubh; the third pressing belongs to the Jagatī.
To that very [rite] the Anuṣṭubh is appended.
When, the morning pressing being in the Gāyatrī, he sings the Gāyatrī—the Gāyatrī is brahman, the morning pressing is brahman—he establishes brahman in its own abode.
Now, when he sings the Triṣṭubh—the Triṣṭubh is dominion.
These indeed are the artistic works in dominion: the elephant, the golden necklace, the mule-chariot, the horse-chariot, the gold ornament, the bronze vessel.
Having brought those very things, he anoints them in brahman.
Now, when he sings the Jagatī—the Jagatī is the peasantry.
These indeed are the artistic works in the peasantry: cattle and horses, elephants and gold, goats and sheep, rice and barley, sesame and beans, ghee, milk, wealth, nourishment.
Having brought those very things, he anoints them in brahman.
To that very [rite] the Anuṣṭubh is appended.
Now, when he sings the Anuṣṭubh—the Śūdra belongs to the Anuṣṭubh—having brought [them] from the Śūdra, he anoints them in brahman.
