Now the Mānava [sāman] with a word-finale, in the Rathantara mode;
therefore it is performed on a Rathantara day.
Manu desired: 'May I multiply with offspring and cattle; may I create human offspring.'
He saw this sāman.
With it he praised.
Then indeed he multiplied with offspring and cattle;
these are the human offspring.
He multiplies with offspring and cattle who knows thus.
Moreover they say: rakṣases sought to slay these offspring of his after they were created.
He desired: 'May I slay the rakṣases.'
He saw this sāman.
With it he praised:
'Agni, Manu has set you down as a light for all people;
shine, O Kanva, born of Ṛta, grown strong, whom the settlements revere.
Impetuous and strong are the flames of Agni, terrible, not to be confronted;
ever burn down all the voracious sorcerers, those possessed of rakṣases!'
Thus he smote away their rakṣases.
And that is the smiting away of rakṣases.
He strikes away the rakṣas, evil, who knows thus.
