Now the Revatī verses.
Cattle indeed are these.
Cattle are the Revatī verses.
Cattle are this day.
Possessors of cattle indeed become those who have praised with this.
The Śakvarī verses formerly scorched this [world] with fiery energy.
They could not be touched because of their fiery energy.
The gods feared their burning down [the world].
They said, 'These will burn down all this!
Come, let us appease this [energy] of theirs.'
Out of them, they measured out two metrical quarters for one, and one for one.
For the one for which they measured out two, to it they joined this two-quartered [verse]; for the one [for which they measured out] one, to it the one-quartered [verse].
That became this three-quartered Gāyatrī.
Indeed, this is the same meter.
They arranged it into two parts, both for abundance and for appeasement.
He is born rich in offspring and cattle, who knows thus.
