iti yādṛgiva syureva brāhmaṇāstādṛgidaṃ yūyaṃ kuruthāpteṣu chandassu dvipada iti

Now these Dvipadā [verses] are [used] for the securing of the unexhausted power of the meters. Exhausted in power are the meters at this time; the Dvipadās alone are unexhausted in power. In that they are performed here, thereby this day is made unexhausted in power. With reference to this, Keśin Dārbhya used to sing: 'Always, indeed, on the mountain there is good fortune; even on a leaf he lives; when he does not find food, then he runs after hope.' [Saying:] 'As Brahmins would be, just so do you do here with the Dvipadās when the meters are completed.' The cattle are the pṛṣṭhya six-day period; the Dvipadās are the man among meters. In that they are performed here, they thereby superimpose the man on the cattle. Therefore the man stands, as it were, above and over cattle. Moreover, that which is the pṛṣṭhya six-day period is this heavenly world; that which is the Dvipadās is, fundamentally, the sacrificer. In that they pile them around over the pṛṣṭhya six-day period, they thereby carry the sacrificer together into the heavenly world.
