They thereby make cattle the counterparts of cattle;
they do not make them visible counterparts here.
Therefore cattle give birth to various forms: even a white [cow] gives birth to a black one, and a black one to a white one, and a red one to a dappled one, and a dappled one to a red one.
"Like courser horses seeking renown, / the Somas have stepped forward for wealth"—
thus they approach the form of the introductory rite;
for this day is introductory.
"Being urged on like chariots..."—
that which contains 'chariot' is indeed the form of the introductory rite.
"They have run into the hands, / like the prizes of the victorious; / like kings with praise, the Somas are anointed with milk"—
[verses] containing 'cow' and cattle are used, for securing cattle;
for the Chandomas are cattle.
"Like sacrifice with the seven nourishers..."—
thus they approach the form of the seventh day.
