Pañcavāja Kautsa desired, 'May I drink out both drinks, both the divine and the human.' He saw this sāman. He praised with it. Thereupon he drank out both drinks, both the divine and the human. Then indeed, having set aside a leather bag of surā, he held [it] for the sake of soma. That is a sāman for the obtaining of food. He drinks out both drinks, both the divine and the human, who knows thus. And because Pañcavāja Kautsa saw it, therefore it is named Pāñcavāja. Now the Krauñca. Kruṅ Āṅgirasa found, as it were, a day that was like a cart-pole (īṣya). Like cart-poles are these chandomas; therefore it is performed on the chandomas. It has the svāra in the middle. The svāra is breath. These chandomas are like those needing healing; every two days are joined together. That it has a svāra in the middle: they place breath in these chandomas; they heal them by this means.
