They saw this sāman; with it they made it stand, [saying]: “It has stood here, it has stood here!” With it alone they made it firm. Since they made it stand by this, that is the Devasthāna's nature as Devasthāna. That there is the Devasthāna here, they establish this very three-day rite; they make it firm. Having prepared it, by it they went to the heavenly world. Because they stood firmly in that heavenly world, that too is the Devasthāna's nature as Devasthāna. When they went to the heavenly world, it protected this whole [world], just as its nidhana [protects]. By this sāman, indeed, he wins an invincible victory over the gods. Concerning this there is this verse: / “The gods, dwelling together, stepped upon the Vairūpa, and that fell apart for them; / having uttered ‘hiṃ’ and having climbed upon it again, they all shook off old age from their bodies.” / Having prepared this very chandoma three-day period, having mounted the Devasthāna sāman itself, they went to the heavenly world. Concerning this too there is this verse: / “When, at the summoning of the Vairūpa, uttering ‘hiṃ’ on the course, they stood firmly on their journey, / they created that Devasthāna sāman; by it the gods went to immortality.” / Thus indeed they went to immortality.
