Now, the Dairghaśravasa. The Dairghaśravasa is food, for the attainment of food. Dīrghatamas Māmateya, going on a quest for gain, said to Dīrghaśravas, his younger brother: “Be the overseer of these our wives.” Dīrghaśravas desired: “May I secure food, lest these wives starve.” He saw this sāman; with it he praised Agni: / “He who distributes all goods, the pleasant Hotṛ of the peoples, / as the first cups of honey, may praises go forward to this Agni!” / Thus. Agni, being praised by him, made this whole [world] consist of honey-sweet food for him. His wives lived just as those who eat honey. That is indeed a great sap; it is great food. By this sāman, indeed, he secures great food. And because Dīrghaśravas saw it, therefore it is called Dairghaśravasa.
