Even the Hotṛ does not recite Anuṣṭubhs; he recites only Virājs. The gods said: 'This one has created the sacrifice; let us sacrifice through her.' They said to the Bṛhatī: 'Do you carry this third day for us; though it is won for us, it is unpervaded.' Indeed, that becomes the Bṛhatī, which becomes a pṛṣṭha. That Bṛhatī, having carried the third day, did not want to carry [further]. With the Rathantara they conquered this world, with the Bṛhatī the intermediate space, with the Bṛhat that [world yonder]. They conquered by means of this three-day period. Just as people go through conquered territory, driving Sindhu horses, riding an elephant, [where] the chariot held by the yoke-pole goes, goes with two hulus, with split-bearing poles, or thus with a donkey chariot—even so did the gods traverse this second three-day period.
