By dyumnas indeed they used to recognize the year.
Now, before that, day and night were joined together, undistinguished.
They used to recognize the year.
Now, before that, day and night were joined together, undistinguished.
And they were distinguished only by the fire-offering.
It broke open with this speech: 'Standing on the ladle, running, two ancient shells, separate yourselves! Into what world may I be born?'
With 'phaḷ', the egg broke open.
That which was its lower shell became this earth.
Now that which was the upper became that sky.
And that which was between became this intermediate space.
The speech that he spoke as he was being born became the three Vedas.
Whatever speech this deity spoke in the beginning as he was being born, that indeed became the brahman.
He saw: 'A great support indeed I have created—these worlds.
Whatever I shall create from now on will find a support.'
'Come, let me create,' [he thought].
He went over himself with the mind.
In him two drops arose: the two spring months.
