Vasiṣṭha, having been defeated [and] having his sons slain, desired: "May I be propagated abundantly with offspring and cattle!"
He saw this sāman.
He praised with it.
Then indeed he was abundantly propagated with offspring and cattle.
This is a generative sāman.
Abundantly he is propagated with offspring and cattle, who knows thus.
And because Vasiṣṭha saw [it], therefore it is named Vāsiṣṭha.
Then the Bṛhat.
The Bṛhat is indeed the summit.
They proceed establishing themselves in the summit.
Then the Vāmadevya.
The Vāmadevya is indeed cattle.
Possessors of cattle indeed they become, chanting praise with this.
Then the Śyaita. It is the marriage of two sāmans, the continuation of the sacrifice.
Indeed, it is one single day, because
"Thee alone yesterday, o men..."
—thus it is.
By that very [verse] the second day is performed.
