3.18.1
atha vā atas stomabhāgānām evānumantrāḥ /
Now further, then, [are] the accompanying formulas of the share-of-praise-chants.
3.18.2
tad dhaitad eke stomabhāgair evānumantrayante
tat tathā na kuryāt /
In this regard, some accompany [the chants] with the shares-of-praise-chants themselves.
One should not do it in that way.
3.18.3
devena savitrā prasūtaḥ prastotar devebhyo vācam iṣyety u haike 'numantrayante savitā vai devānām prasavitā savitrā prasūtā idam anumantrayāmaha iti vadantaḥ
tad u tathā na kuryāt /
Some accompany with: 'Impelled by the god Savitṛ, O prastotṛ, send forth speech to the gods!', saying: 'Savitṛ is indeed the impeller among the gods; impelled by Savitṛ, we accompany this.'
One should not do it in that way either.
3.18.4
bhūr bhuvas svar ity u haike 'numantrayanta eṣā vai trayī vidyā trayyaivedaṃ vidyayānumantrayāmaha iti vadantaḥ
tad u tathā no eva kuryāt /
And some accompany with: 'bhūḥ, bhuvaḥ, svaḥ', saying: 'This is indeed the threefold knowledge; with the threefold knowledge we accompany this.'
One should by no means do it in that way either.
3.18.5
om ity evānumantrayeta /
One should accompany with 'om' alone.
3.18.6
athaiṣa vasiṣṭhasyaikastomabhāgānumantraḥ
tena haitena vasiṣṭhaḥ prajātikāmo 'numantrayāṃ cakre devena savitrā prasūtaḥ prastotar devebhyo vācam iṣya bhūr bhuvas svar om iti
tato vai sa bahuḥ prajayā paśubhiḥ prājāyata /
Now, this is Vasiṣṭha's accompanying formula of the single share-of-the-praise-chant.
Desiring offspring, Vasiṣṭha accompanied with this: 'Impelled by the god Savitṛ, O prastotṛ, send forth speech to the gods: bhūḥ, bhuvaḥ, svaḥ, om!'
Thence indeed he was abundantly propagated with offspring and cattle.
3.18.7
sa eva tena vasiṣṭhasyaikastomabhāgānumantreṇānumantrayeta bahur eva prajayā paśubhiḥ prajāyate
iyaṃ tv eva sthitir om ity evānumantrayeta /
caturthe 'nuvāke caturthaḥ khaṇḍaḥ //
If he should accompany with that single accompanying formula of the share-of-the-praise-chant belonging to Vasiṣṭha, he is abundantly propagated with offspring and cattle.
However, this settled rule is: one should accompany with 'om' alone.
