1.116
It is the commencement of the day. The sacrifice indeed is the juice; it is the commencement of the sacrifice. "There are three juices in the sacrifice," ancient Brahmins used to discuss: "Born high with juice...", "Gladdening with the juice of wealth...", "Winning forward with your juice...". There are three uses in cattle: in the morning, at midday, in the evening. These indeed he secures by this. These two worlds, being together, went apart. Between the two of them nothing fell. The gods and humans hungered. For the gods live on what is offered from here, and humans on what is given from there. Prajāpati saw these verses: "Born high with juice...". With "Up!", indeed, he conveyed the offering from here to the gods; with "dwelling in heaven, I take from the earth", he made rain fall from there. He made these two worlds co-dwellers. They two poured out desire for him. For him who knows thus, these two worlds pour out desire. On these [verses], the gāyatra [sāman] is sung; its explanation has been told.
