They saw this stobha. With it they struck them downwards [crying] 'hā u vā'. With 'the divine spring… hirā hā u vā', they made them touch the ground. The sāman became, as it were, brought to its end. The heavenly world above indeed should hold [him]. Upward from the pratihāra the Udgātṛ [chants] for the attainment of the heavenly world. With 'ṇyāyā au ho vā ho iḷā', connecting it by means of the tone, he attains the heavenly world. So many indeed are the sāmans, so much is the sāman-arrangement, and so much is the relation of the sāman. It is svāra (having a tone-ending); breath indeed is the tone. Then it has a finale (nidhana); the self indeed is the finale. Then it ends in iḷā; cattle indeed is the iḷā. He thereby connects breath, the self, and cattle. With the complete arrangement of the sāman, with the complete relation of the sāman, it has been praised for him who knows thus.
1.123.p1
There are indeed two sāmans: one with stobhas and one without stobhas.
1.123.p2
Of the two, that which has stobhas is the kṣatra; now that which is without stobhas is the brahman.
1.123.p3
He obtains both, brahman and kṣatra, who knows thus.
1.123.p4
Now the Yaudhājaya has three finales, for the proper arrangement of the pressings.
