The waters were indeed the wives of the gods.
They desired union.
They approached Mitra and Varuṇa.
They conceived an embryo.
From that the Revatī cattle were created.
He should perform [it] on the Revatī [verses] for one who desires cattle.
He indeed becomes rich in cattle.
However, he is liable to become childless,
for he departs from the verses containing 'ka', which belong to Prajāpati.
Now, Bharadvāja, desiring cattle, saw this Pṛśni-stotra: 'With what help will the wonderful one be present for us?',
'The Revatīs have not rejoiced together', 'Directly to us of friends'.
In that he introduces one Revatī in the middle, thereby he does not depart from cattle;
and in that two verses containing 'ka' belonging to Prajāpati are on both sides, thereby he does not depart from offspring.
It has a final tone.
The tone is indeed breath.
He thus places breaths in cattle.
However, by the tone he is liable to sing the sacrificer's cattle away into sound; if he should make it without a finale,
he would shut off the breaths.

'avitā jarāyitṝṇāmā āuho hā yi śatāṃ bhavasyauho huṃ mā tā yā huṃ mā'

1.140.p2

—he should make this in the latter half of the final [verse].

1.140.p3

Just as one, having driven cows into a pen, would close [it] with a bolt, such is that.

1.140.p4

Regarding this they say: that final tone is to be made in its own womb [meter] alone.

1.140.p5

If someone should reprove him who has acted thus, saying: 'With the tone you have sung away the sacrificer's cattle into sound,' to him

1.140.p6

he should say: 'The Rathantara with a finale is in front; the Naudhasa with a finale is above.'

1.140.p7

'By these two, offspring and cattle are enclosed on both sides for me.'

1.140.p8

'I have merely placed breath in the midst of the cattle.'
