One who desires refuge should use the Nārmedha.
Nṛmedha and Suvrata were two brothers.
They both set up fires.
Nṛmedha chanted as Udgātṛ for Suvrata.
That [sacrifice] had been chanted with the Yajñāyajñīya alone.
Then they approached him:
'Indeed, the two sons of the Udgātṛ killed the son of the sacrificer, Antakadhṛti, son of Suvrata, namely Nakir and Śakapūta!'
Touching his two arms, he said: 'Brahmins, this is your sacrifice; sacrifice with it for whatever you desire! By this one, indeed, I shall drive that away; I shall avenge that.'
Wrapping him around the udumbara post, he set him on fire with hemp stalks.
He desired: 'May I go up from here; may I find a path, a refuge; may this fire not burn me!'
He saw this sāman.
With it he praised.
Then indeed he found a path, a refuge; the fire did not burn him.
It even burned away the rope with which he had been bound.
Therefore this is the sāman that finds a path, finds refuge.
Indeed, he found a path, a refuge.
He who knows thus finds a path, a refuge.
And because Nṛmedha saw it, it is named Nārmedha.
