One who desires prosperity should perform the two Āṣṭādaṃṣṭra [sāmans]. Aṣṭādaṃṣṭra Vairūpa saw these two sāmans after the other ṛṣis. He feared: "Will my two sāmans be excluded from the stotriya?" He said: "May he prosper who satisfies my two sāmans with Soma!" These two sāmans are rich in prosperity. Those who praise with these two indeed prosper. Aṣṭādaṃṣṭra Vairūpa, desiring cattle, performed ascetic toil. He saw these two sāmans. He praised with them. He attained this iḷā. The iḷā is cattle. Then he secured cattle. These two sāmans belong to cattle. He who knows this secures cattle and becomes rich in cattle. Because Aṣṭādaṃṣṭra Vairūpa saw [them], therefore they are called the two Āṣṭādaṃṣṭra [sāmans]. The Acchāvāka's sāman becomes based on the iḷā. The iḷā is cattle. He firmly stands in cattle.
