"This is your soma, O Indra"—this is indeed the re-announcement of the sacrificial offering. "This now is your further sacrifice," they indeed say to Indra. For this second sacrificial offering is made which is the night. On these [verses is] the Aurdhvasadmana. By the Aurdhvasadmana the gods sat upright in these worlds. Because they sat upright in these worlds, that is the Aurdhvasadmana's nature as Aurdhvasadmana. This is a heavenly-world-reaching sāman. Whoever knows thus sits upright in the heavenly world. By the Aurdhvasadmana the gods wrested the cattle of the Asuras with "suvṛktibhiḥ" ("with praises"); with "nṛmādanam" ("the exhilarator of men") they hurled the thunderbolt; with "bhareṣvā" ("in battles") they ascended to the heavenly world. By the Aurdhvasadmana indeed he wrests the cattle of his hateful rival with "suvṛktibhiḥ"; he hurls the thunderbolt with "nṛmādanam"; he ascends to the heavenly world with "bhareṣvā". They say: "They are to be approached separately. For these worlds are separate, as it were—for the support of these worlds." This world is "suvṛktibhiḥ"; the intermediate space is "nṛmādanam"; yonder world is "bhareṣvā". Therefore, they are to be approached separately, for the support of these worlds.
