Upon Paṅkti verses, one desiring sacrifice, who might desire, 'May the sacrifice fall to my share again.' The sacrifice indeed is the Paṅkti; the sacrifice falls to his share again. Upon Triṣṭubh verses, one desiring power, desiring vital power; power, vital power indeed is the Triṣṭubh; he becomes powerful, endowed with vital power. Upon Jagatī verses, one desiring cattle; cattle indeed are the Jagatī; he becomes possessed of cattle indeed. Regarding this they say: Praise is sung for only one desire in one meter for him who praises in this way; but praise is sung in all meters, for all desires, for him who praises upon Bṛhatī verses, for all these meters correspond to the Bṛhatī. The Gāyatrī and the Jagatī, they are two Bṛhatīs; the Uṣṇih and the Triṣṭubh, they are two Bṛhatīs; the Anuṣṭubh and the Paṅkti, they are two Bṛhatīs; the Bṛhatī itself is a Bṛhatī. Therefore one should praise upon Bṛhatī verses alone, to attain all these meters, all desires.
