1.23
He said to him: 'Gautama, what is fame?'
Pointing to the fire, he said: 'This is fame,' and pointing to the sun, 'Yonder is fame.
So I offer yonder fame into this fame in the evening; I offer this fame into yonder fame in the morning.
These two alone will make me reach where all desires are;
these two will conquer repeated death for me.'
'Well-offered; may I propitiate the gods!' thus he praised him.
Then he asked the next one: 'How, venerable sir, do you perform the fire-offering?'
Vājasaneya said: 'As truth indeed, O Emperor, do I offer the fire-offering.
Therefore I am truth.
Therefore, when I speak, it is bright like the truth.'
