This indeed is the sacrificial rite having light at both ends, namely the Atirātra. / The bahiṣpavamāna in front is trivṛt; the rāthantara-saṃdhi at the end is trivṛt. / Agni is the former trivṛt; Āditya is the latter. / By Agni this world has light; by Āditya that world [has light]. / With a sacrificial rite that has light at both ends has he sacrificed, and full of light he becomes in this world and in that, who knows thus. / These two, indeed, are brahman and kṣatra. / The trivṛt is brahman; the fifteen-fold [stoma] is kṣatra. / Joining together this brahman and kṣatra, they carry through the night. / Joining together this brahman and kṣatra, they strike away evil in the end. / That these two stomas are performed in the end is precisely for striking away evil. / He strikes away evil who knows thus. / That they attain to the Gāyatrī—splendor and spiritual luster are the Gāyatrī—he thereby firmly establishes himself in splendor and spiritual luster. / Moreover, he thereby establishes the sacrificer in life for full duration of life; / for breath is the Gāyatrī. / He attains full life who knows thus.
