Pointing to the fire, he said, 'This is arka; yonder horse, sacrifice, fit for sacrifice,' [pointing] to the sun.
'So I offer this horse, sacrifice, fit for sacrifice, in this arka in the evening; I offer this arka in yonder horse, sacrifice, fit for sacrifice, in the morning.
These two will bring me there, where all desires are;
these two will conquer repeated death for me.'
Praising [it with the words,] 'Well offered!', he said, 'Whoever should tell me the course and the goal in the fire-offering, to him I would give a boon.'
They said, 'We do not know the course and the goal in the fire-offering; tell us the course and the goal in the fire-offering, and we will give you each five boons.'
Pointing to the fire, he said, 'This is the course; yonder is the goal,' [pointing] to the sun.
'So I offer that goal in this course in the evening; I offer this course in that goal in the morning.
These two will bring me there, where all desires are;
these two will conquer repeated death for me.'
Praising [it with the words,] 'Well offered!', they said, 'Choose the boons which we may give!'
He said, 'This indeed is my boon: let me give to you each five thousand horses.'
These indeed are the meditations on the fire-offering, these are the desires;
he obtains these very desires who knows thus, and for whom one knowing thus offers the fire-offering.
