1.28

Mounting rays as a chariot, he journeys from there toward co-existence with the moon.
He offers for four days.
Sixteen oblations are completed.
Sixteen-part indeed is brahman.
Sixteen-part are the gods.
Sixteen-part is this whole [universe] at once.
If here he commits an impure, evil deed, by even one part [of it],
just as a piece of gold when heated attains pure goldness, even so, having cast off evil impurity onto his hateful rivals, he goes to the heavenly world.
This indeed is the hare that is inside the moon;
for this one rules over this all.
This indeed is Yama who is inside the moon;
for this one restrains this all.
This is death, which is named Yama the Consumer.
Having pacified him by means of those oblations, he conquers invigorating strength among worlds, Yama among gods.
He ascends to union, to co-existence with the god Yama, who, knowing thus, offers the fire-offering.
