Regarding this they say: ‘If the fire-offering milk being milked should spill for this performer of a prolonged session while offering the fire-offering, what is the rite there, what is the expiation?’ Whatever remains there in the pot, with that he should offer. ‘And if the pot should turn upside down or break, what is the rite there, what is the expiation?’ Touching it for the expiation of the spilt [milk]: ‘The unspilt was established,’ then with whatever other [milk] he finds, with that he should offer. For when it spills, then it is established. Milk is semen; this [earth] is the womb. He establishes that semen in the womb itself. The poured semen of him who knows thus procreates properly. Parjanya spills from yonder; here plants and trees are born. Semen spills from man, from cattle; from that all this was procreated. He should know: ‘The gods have approached me; my procreation has become greater; I shall become better.’ It will indeed happen so. Moreover, where it broke, there he should pour out a water-pot or a water-jug with these sacred utterances: ‘Bhūḥ, bhuvaḥ, svaḥ.’ These sacred utterances are the all-expiations. Thus with all this he makes the expiation.
