The droṇakalaśa trough is the realm; the pressing-stones are the subjects. If the droṇakalaśa were to become loose, the realm would become loose; following that, the subjects; following the subjects, the sacrificer; following the sacrificer, the offspring. He makes it firm: 'May the two divine pressing-boards protect you! Sit in the firm sadas! Sit for food, for nourishment!' These two divine pressing-boards are indeed these [two worlds]; this firm sadas is this [world]. It is with these worlds that he makes it firm. 'Sit for food, for nourishment'—rain indeed is for food; that which grows after the rain, that is for nourishment; that is what he secures thereby. Svarbhānu the Āsura pierced the sun with darkness. The gods and the ṛṣis cured him. They said to Atri: 'O ṛṣi, strike this away!' 'So be it,' [he said]. Atri struck it away. They said: 'Whoever has found light for us who were pierced with darkness, let light be his share!' That is this gold given to an Atri that is brought. Formerly a hundred-māna weight used to be brought; but now they give whatever amount. For gold is indeed the light in all the worlds. He who, knowing thus, gives gold to an Atri establishes light in all the worlds.

If he should desire of someone, 'May he become worse,' he should throw black [wool] into his filter; he becomes worse indeed.

Then, if he should desire of someone, 'May he be neither lower nor higher,' he should throw smoky [wool] into his filter; neither lower nor

higher does he become.

1.80.p7

Then, if he should desire of someone, 'May he become better, may he attain brilliance,' he should make his filter of reddish-white [wool];

1.80.p9

For in that there is a trace of the sun as well.

1.80.p10

Having taken it down between the two shafts, he wipes it: 'May the Vasus wipe you clean with the Gāyatrī meter!

1.80.p11

May the Rudras wipe you clean with the Triṣṭubh meter!

1.80.p12

May the Ādityas wipe you clean with the Jagatī meter!'

1.80.p13

Then he spreads it out with the filter having fringes facing north: 'Your filter is spread out, O Brahmaṇaspati,'

1.80.p14

for complete attainment.

1.80.p15

'Your heated filter is spread out in the seat of heaven,' [he recites] for one who desires the heavenly world.
