1.88
If he were to utter the sound hiṃ without uttering om, food would go away from him. / If he were to utter a sāman first, power would go to the nobility, / for the sāman is nobility. / If he were to utter a verse first, power would go to the people, / for a verse is the people. / When he utters a sacrificial formula first—the sacrificial formula is brahman—he thereby brings about spiritual luster. / 'Earth, atmosphere, heaven! / I will make sweetness; / I will produce sweetness; / sweetness there shall be; / welfare upon welfare; / food and sap!' / As for 'Earth, atmosphere, heaven!', this is the brahman, this is the sacrificial formula. / As for 'I will make sweetness', progeny is sweetness; he thereby makes them. / As for 'I will produce sweetness', he thereby generates them. / As for 'sweetness there shall be', he thereby leads them to prosperity. / As for 'welfare upon welfare', whatever is a man's possession, that is welfare: houses are welfare, children are welfare, cattle are welfare; that he thereby secures. / As for 'food and sap', rain is food; what thrives after rain, that is sap; that he thereby secures.
1.88.p1
Having arranged Prajāpati, he should sing.
1.88.p2
He who sings having arranged Prajāpati, for him [the worlds] are arranged: 'The quarters, the intermediate quarters, the principal quarters,
1.88.p3
the divergent quarters, the upper quarters, the quarters.'
1.88.p4
The quarters are Prajāpati.
1.88.p5
He thus sings having arranged Prajāpati.
1.88.p6
Things are arranged for him who knows thus.
1.88.p7
Kapivana Bhauvāyana used to say: 'Do they go to the sacrifice who, without having consumed the soma,
1.88.p8
creep forth or make [horses] run?'
1.88.p9
When they have approached for the Bahiṣpavamāna, one should say day after day to whichever Brahmin one considers to be pure:
1.88.p10
Having shared the invitation with him, he should then pronounce over [it]:
1.88.p11
“Whatever drinking of Soma belongs to the gods here, at this sacrifice, on the sacrificial grass, on the altar,
1.88.p12
of that we consume this.”
1.88.p14
Whether he runs forward or whether he does not, then divine Soma is indeed consumed for him.
1.88.p15
These wild cattle have this [realm] as their domain.
1.88.p16
Because they chant the Bahiṣpavamāna in the wilderness, therefore wild cattle frequent the wilderness.
1.88.p17
They chant on [verses] turned away.
1.88.p18
Therefore wild cattle move forward from wilderness to wilderness.
1.88.p19
They chant on [verses] of uniform form.
