2-3.116
They sustain the fire; they separately sustain the high altar. Thereby that first oblation reaches this fire. Then to them these Ādityas brought that very sun as a white horse, fastened with a horse-halter, [saying,] 'Receive this one.' They said, 'This one is indeed superior to us; we cannot endure this.' The gods and the seers, coming up to them, said, 'Sacrifices without priestly gifts will be cut off; accept!' Concerning this, this verse is recited: / 'The Ādityas brought a horse as the sacrificial gift to the Aṅgirases, O singer. / That [gift], O singer, they did not accept; that, O singer, you did not receive. / And then, O singer, they accepted it; and then, O singer, they received it, / lest the sacrifices be without leaders, lest they be without understanding.'
2-3.116.p1
'The Ādityas, the Rudras, the Vasus praise you; receive this gift, O Aṅgiras!
2-3.116.p2
May the gods grant you this gift, great and broad, as your choice!
2-3.116.p3
May that be well-regarded by you!
2-3.116.p4
May it be yours day by day; do take it!'
2-3.116.p5
In this way indeed they caused them to accept it.
2-3.116.p6
Then the Ādityas reached the heavenly world first; the Aṅgirases were left behind.
2-3.116.p7
