2-3.131
The virāj is the ruling power. Then those which are eight are the gāyatrī. Brilliance and spiritual luster are the gāyatrī. He thus places brilliance and spiritual luster in front of the ruling power. Therefore a Brahmin is the domestic priest of a nobleman. He who desires the domestic priesthood should sacrifice with this; he attains the domestic priesthood. Some make it of one meter only, the gāyatrī entirely; [they think,] 'Bṛhaspati is of the gāyatrī; the gāyatrī is the brahman; Bṛhaspati is the brahman; by the brahman let us prosper in spiritual luster.' Those who do so obtain thereby only Agni among the deities, the gāyatrī among the meters, and this world. But the other deities are excluded for them, and the other meters, and the other gods, and the other worlds, and the other desires. Therefore it should be performed according to [various] meters, for the attainment of all the deities, all the meters, all the gods, all the worlds, and all desires. Its prescribed sāman at the Ārbhava-pavamāna is the Bṛhad-Bārhaspatya; for this is the Bṛhaspatisava. They thus make the stoma abundant with its own form.
